You Won't Find A Cheaper Photographer
Cheap Photographers Near Me
By Jeffrey House Photography
Google "cheap photographers near me" and that's exactly what you'll get.
Google and Social media, if you're listening close enough, can provide us with useful information. I'm not talking about "duck face" selfies taken in the bathroom kind of information, but useful information. Recently, on Facebook, I came across a very interesting story shared by a recent bride and one I want to share with you.
As a professional wedding photographer, I feel a responsibility and have a strong desire to help people with anything to do with weddings - wedding photography, wedding planning, etc.
When I see stories, like the one I did the other day, it literally makes my skin crawl!
A local bride hired a "wedding photographer" based on price. The photographer even told the bride, "You won't find anyone cheaper."
The bride reported paying this photographer $450 for his services. The problem is the photographer sold themselves as an experienced and professional wedding photographer. If any photographer sells themselves as "experienced" and/or a "professional wedding photographer," and they're only going to charge you $450, run for the hills as fast as you possibly can!! This price is so ridiculous I'm truly at a loss for words.
Common Sense Prevails
We're not saying you have to hire the most expensive wedding photographer out there. Sometimes companies will charge very high prices to create the illusion of being the best. They fool you into believing that because it's the most expensive, you gotta have it. However, if the average price is $3,000 and someone is telling you they will do it for $1,000, it should raise a red flag. The average photographer is going to invest 70-80 hours of their time, from start to finish, on a wedding with 8 hours of photography coverage. They will spend between 30-40 hours just editing the photos from your wedding day. A photographer charging $1,000 for 70 hours of work is making $14.28 per hour. But then the photographer will need pay their overhead costs out of that $14.28 (office supplies, phone, insurance, equipment maintenance, website fees, transportation, etc.). Charging $1,000 for an 8 hour wedding and accounting for expenses, the photographer might make $75-$100 if they're lucky! Can you imagine netting $100 for almost two weeks worth of work? Would you do it?
The Bride's Experience
She paid $450 for her wedding photography and eventually received the pictures. The photographer provided 8 hours of photography coverage and gave the couple around 150 pictures from the day. Ouch! But the problems didn't stop there. The photographer's pictures included shots of the back of people's heads, heads where chopped off, the pictures were either extremely underexposed or overexposed, pictures were blurry, and the pictures clearly were not edited. The bride was so upset, she was beside herself with anger - obviously.

It's A Common Regret
In our blog "Top 5 Bride Regrets," the second biggest regret, over 80% of brides have, is scrimping on their wedding photography. If you hire someone to photograph your wedding for $450 and they warn you that they are new to wedding photography, and they are willing to do it very cheap because they are not experienced, then you have a decision to make. But at least you enter into it with the understanding that your pictures are going to suffer due to their inexperience. But if you want these keepsakes from your wedding day to be professional looking, it's time to look into other options.
When it comes to your wedding day there are no second chances - no retakes. Once the moment is over, it's over. This is part of the reason being a wedding photographer is highly demanding. There is a lot of pressure to capture these special moments quickly and artistically.
We understand wedding photography is expensive and bottom line, it really is a small investment. On the flip side, you're going to pay a person a few thousand dollars and receive a tangible product that will last a lifetime. What other products or services do you buy that last a lifetime? Not very many!
